5,000-kg Shipment of Congjiang County Oranges Arrives at The Venetian Macao

Procurement effort part of Sands China’s poverty relief work in Guizhou province  

(Macao, May 7, 2019) – Sands China Ltd. received a large shipment of oranges from Guizhou's Congjiang County April 29 at The Venetian^® Macao’s receiving dock, as part of the company’s response to the Macao SAR government’s call for targeted poverty alleviation in mainland China.

Sands China was the first integrated resort operator in Macao to purchase goods from the impoverished county, and last Monday’s shipment of 5,000 kg of oranges is the third batch of products received to date. Previous shipments have included chili sauce, mineral water and mandarin oranges.

The Congjiang oranges are harvested each growing season in April only and were delivered to Sands China at peak ripeness. The shipment is the first batch of Congjiang oranges to arrive in Macao. The oranges were served at the company’s back-of-house dining rooms, which service the company’s more than 28,000 team members.

“Sands China is pleased with the results of our procurement efforts in Congjiang, and we are glad to support the ongoing poverty relief work in the county,” said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. “Our company will continue to explore opportunities to purchase more products from Congjiang, with an aim to help boost its industrial and economic development.”

The procurement drive with Congjiang was initiated by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM). It seeks to strengthen cooperation between enterprises in the county and Macao, and to support the central government’s nationwide poverty alleviation work.
