Sands Cares Ambassadors Spend Day with Fuhong Society of Macau

Service activity at two centres and buffet lunch at Sands Macao  

(Macao, May 29, 2019) – A group of around 30 Sands Cares Ambassadors spent time with about 65 members of the Fuhong Society of Macau May 17, doing a service activity together before enjoying a buffet lunch at Sands^® Macao.

The outing is one in a year-long series of celebratory activities leading up to the 10th anniversary of the Sands Cares Ambassador programme in August 2019, with the theme Spreading Love and Embracing Our Community. It’s also part of the celebrations for the 15th anniversary of Sands Macao, where a ceremony was held May 16.

The day began with Sands Cares Ambassadors visiting Fuhong’s Pou Choi Centre, where they made Vietnamese delicacies. The Sands volunteers then walked to Fuhong’s nearby Long Cheng Centre, where they shared the treats with the members there. Afterward, the entire group travelled to Sands Macao, where they enjoyed lunch together at 888 Buffet.

The Fuhong Society of Macau is one of the first NGOs that the Sands Cares Ambassador programme began collaborating with, going back to 2009. Sands China’s donations to Fuhong over the years have included a large-format A3 printing system – which gives Fuhong the ability to print its own promotional materials – and industrial-sized washers and dryers for Fuhong’s Happy Laundry Social Enterprise, including a platform constructed by Sands China’s facilities department.

“We have been collaborating since the opening of Sands Macao,” said Jennifer Chau, Fuhong’s director. “I still remember when we were invited to the Las Vegas-style buffet at 888 for the first time around 10 years ago, and how we were in awe because Macao had never seen anything like that before – and here we are again today! I’m really grateful that our partnership has remained strong and that we’re still serving the community together. It’s a pleasure to work with the volunteers from Sands China, and we thank them for taking the time to build relationships with and create positive experiences for our members.”

The Sands Cares Ambassador programme was established in August 2009 to give Sands China team members an outlet for serving the local community by organising community activities and initiatives that work toward creating a better Macao. With membership of more than 3,300 volunteers from across all Sands China properties – Sands Macao, The Venetian^® Macao, The Plaza^® Macao, Sands^® Cotai Central and The Parisian Macao – the Sands Cares Ambassadors have contributed 100,000 hours of voluntary community service since the programme’s founding.

The Sands Cares Ambassador programme is part of Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship programme of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp.
