Sands China Assembles 40,000 Hygiene Kits for Clean the World

round 350 volunteers from company and community groups create hygiene kits for people in need Company’s 6th consecutive year of participation

(
Macao, December 13, 2019) – A total of around 350 volunteers from Sands China Ltd. and local community groups worked together Friday at The Venetian® Macao to build 40,000 of the 100,000 total hygiene kits of the Las Vegas Sands 2019 Global Disaster Relief & Community Preparedness Event with Clean the World. It is the sixth year in a row for Sands China to participate in the hygiene kit build.

The community event is an annual worldwide volunteer effort of Sands China’s parent company, Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS). It helps international social enterprise Clean the World to provide hygiene supplies that are essential for good health and preventing the spread of disease to populations in need around the globe. Emergency response hygiene kits are distributed to assist with on-the-ground, immediate needs in times of crisis and disaster.

The 40,000 kits assembled on Friday will benefit global charity Children International, who will deliver the kits to families in need in the Philippines.

Sands China’s volunteer event is part of a series of LVS hygiene kit builds from July to December 2019 at LVS properties around the world: Marina Bay Sands in Singapore; The Venetian in Las Vegas; and The Venetian Macao. The initiative is part of LVS’ global corporate citizenship programme, Sands Cares, and its ongoing partnership with Clean the World.

On Friday, volunteers met at The Venetian Macao to assemble the 40,000 hygiene kits. About 290 of them were Sands China team members, including Sands Cares Ambassadors, and another 60 or so volunteers came from three local associations: the Women's General Association of Macau, Greenfuture Macau, and the Noah Family Mutual Aid Association.

Once complete, the hygiene kits contain soap collected from Clean the World’s hospitality partners, including LVS properties around the world, and recycled through Clean the World’s soap sterilization and re-manufacturing process. The kits also contain face towels donated by Linyi Standard Textile Trading Co., Ltd., dental kit sets donated by Ming Fai Enterprise International Co., Ltd., shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, washcloths, toothbrush, toothpaste, and a card with an encouraging message from Sands China and Clean the World – all of which are placed into a non-woven bag.

“In what has now become an annual tradition for us here in Macao, Sands China is more than pleased to again contribute to this very meaningful initiative from LVS and Clean the World,” said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. “Caring for the community is an essential aspect of good citizenship – both personal and corporate. We are very grateful for the local community groups who joined us this year to help extend that circle of care beyond Macao to our neighbours in the region by offering the hygiene kits.”

Shawn Seipler, chief executive officer of Clean the World, said: “This annual event with Sands is one of the hallmarks of our relationship. From the beginning, Sands recognised the potential for business to serve the communities around them. We are so grateful for the yearly impact that we make and are excited for the future we can create together.”

Sands China was the first integrated operator to launch such an event in Macao, which supports LVS’ annual global corporate social responsibility initiative. Including this year’s event, Las Vegas Sands will have created nearly 660,000 kits to date, with Sands China contributing 240,000 of those.

The LVS annual hygiene kit build provides critical funding support for Clean the World to propel its global mission – LVS contributes US$1 to the Clean the World Foundation for each assembled kit. The US$100,000 donation generated from this year’s global kit build will help drive the foundation’s mission in two key areas: ongoing hygiene education and disaster response.

The annual Las Vegas Sands Global Hygiene Kit Build is an element of the company’s long-term partnership with Clean the World to simultaneously help people through improved hygiene access and protect the planet by diverting waste from landfills. Since 2011, LVS and Clean the World have recycled nearly 240 tons of waste from LVS properties into more than 1.9 million bars of soap. In addition, LVS has donated more than US$2 million to Clean the World since 2014, which has helped the organisation double its production of recycled soap and expand service into new areas.
