

Sands China Donates Over MOP 1 Million in Scholarships and Fellowships to Benefit Local Uni Students
14th consecutive year of donations to Macao universities and institutes benefitting over 1,300 students to date
(Macao, Nov. 11, 2020) – Sands China Ltd. is
donating more than MOP 1 million for scholarships and
fellowships to seven Macao tertiary institutions,
marking the 14th consecutive year of supporting higher
education in Macao through the annual initiative. The
company presented ceremonial cheques to representatives
of the institutions Nov. 4 at The Venetian®
Macao.
"Nurturing local students and contributing to the
education and development of local talent in Macao
remains an important priority for Sands China," said Dr.
Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. "Through
these annual donations for scholarships and fellowships,
we will continue to nurture the growth of local youth
and to help them contribute to the pool of diversified
talent in Macao. This scholarship and fellowship
initiative has been part of our Sands Cares community
building efforts since 2006, and we are very pleased to
be able to support the Macao SAR government's talent
cultivation strategy as Macao continues its development
as a world centre of tourism and
leisure."
Including this year's donation, Sands China has now
contributed more than MOP 11.4 million toward tertiary
scholarships and fellowships since 2006, benefitting
over 1,300 students to
date.
Representatives from Sands China presented the
ceremonial cheques Wednesday to Carol Wong, director of
the Rector's Office of the University of Macau; Lei Ngan
Lin, vice president, Alice Lao Weng Ian, head of the
Student Affairs Office, and Irene Chan Iok Leng, head of
the Public Relations Office of Macao Polytechnic
Institute; Louisa Lam Pou Iok, registrar of the
Pedagogic Affairs Department of the Institute for
Tourism Studies; Amy Chu Oi Mei, head of the Secretariat
of the President's Office and vice dean of faculty of
Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Remus Wong Ka
Weng, head of the Student Affairs Office, of the Macau
University of Science and Technology; Stephen Morgan,
rector, Álvaro Barbosa, vice-rector, and Derek Wong,
student affairs officer of the Office for Student and
Alumni Affairs of the University of Saint Joseph;
Zhiming Cai, head of the Academic Affairs Office of City
University of Macau; and Tong Kai Chung, president of
the Macau Institute of
Management.
The more than MOP 1 million in donations will be
distributed among 108 students in support of their
studies for the current academic year. Beneficiary
students are chosen each year based on their academic
performance and financial status during the previous
academic year.
