Sands China Named Pace-setter in CUHK's Business Sustainability Indices (BSI)
Three Top 10 rankings and one Top 20
(Macao,
Oct. 31, 2022) – Sands China has been recognised
by CUHK's Business Sustainability Indices (BSI),
earning rankings in four of its indices this
year.
Among them is
a Top 10 ranking in the 2nd Greater China
Hotel Business Sustainability Index (Hotel BSI),
with Sands China gaining the additional distinction of
being named a Pace-setter in the category. Sands
China is one of only two companies out of 38 in the
Hotel BSI that performed at the Pace-setter level, which
was the highest level awarded in the category this
year.
Launched in
2015 by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)
Business School, the Business Sustainability Indices
(BSI) promote business practices that contribute to
positive social and environmental impact. This year's
rankings were announced in September, after the BSI
examined the sustainability performance of 285 companies
across 12 industries, based on their Environmental,
Social, and Governance (ESG) and Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) performance in
2020.
Sean McCreery,
senior vice president of resort operations of Sands
China Ltd., said: "Sands China is pleased by this
recognition from the Business Sustainability Indices.
Environmental sustainability and corporate social
responsibility are guiding principles for Sands China,
and we strive to put them into practice in all areas of
our business. From our executive management team to the
frontline and back-of-house team members at our
properties, Sands China is proud of our team members for
supporting and successfully implementing those
principles day-to-day and on the
ground."
Sands China's
Pace-setter rating in the Hotel BSI means it has built a
mature socially responsible management system and adopts
a comprehensive business sustainability approach. The
rating is awarded only to companies whose social
responsibility performance has been substantially above
average.
In determining
its rankings, the BSI methodology looks at three areas:
value, process and impact. This includes looking at a
corporation's vision, management skills, and influence
on society, the environment and its
stakeholders.
Besides the
Hotel BSI, Sands China ranked in three other indices.
Sands China was the only integrated resort or hotel
operator ranking in the Top 20 in the 2nd
Greater China Business Sustainability Index
(GCBSI).
It was also
the only integrated resort or hotel operator ranked in
the Top 10 of the 3rd Greater Bay Area
Business Sustainability Index (GBABSI), where it
ranked
9th.
It likewise
ranked 9th in the 7th Hong Kong Business
Sustainability Index (HKBSI) and was again the
only integrated resort or hotel operator in the Top
10.
Additionally,
Sands China recently signed a memorandum of
understanding with the Macau Fair & Trade Association
(MFTA) to mark their joint commitment to promoting and
strengthening the sustainable development of the MICE
industry in Macao. This key strategic initiative for
Sands China represents its commitment to delivering
carbon neutral exhibition venues and its support of the
Macao government's target of net zero
emissions.
Sands China
executes the People, Planet and Communities corporate
social responsibility platform of parent company Las
Vegas Sands through a variety of initiatives that
include programmes such as the Sands ECO360 global
sustainability programme; the Sands Cares corporate
giving and community engagement programme; and the Sands
China Academy, a team member professional development
programme. Sands China's strong track record in
sustainable business performance through the economic
value and social impact it has delivered is part of its
commitment to serve the Macao community and contribute
to making it a better place to live and
work.
The Top 10
ranking in the 2nd Greater China Hotel Business
Sustainability Index (Hotel BSI) included the additional
distinction of being named a Pace-setter in the index.
Sands China also achieved Top 20 in the 2nd Greater
China Business Sustainability Index (GCBSI), 9th in the
3rd Greater Bay Area Business Sustainability Index
(GBABSI), and 9th in the 7th Hong Kong Business
Sustainability Index
(HKBSI).
