Sands China Supports Macau Holy House of Mercy's Welfare Shop for 11th Year

Sands Cares Ambassadors help distribute food hampers

(Macao, Feb. 3, 2023) – Sands China Ltd. donated MOP 300,000 to Macau Holy House of Mercy to support its operating expenses and charity supplies Friday, marking the company's 11th year of consecutive support to the charitable organisation. Additionally, around 40 Sands Cares Ambassadors are volunteering at Macau Holy House of Mercy's Welfare Shop Feb. 3-4, assisting in the distribution of over 370 Chinese New Year food hampers to disadvantaged families.

Since 2013, the Welfare Shop has been distributing food and essentials on a monthly basis to several thousand families facing financial difficulties, helping provide relief from the rising cost of living to households from disadvantaged neighbourhoods.

Each food hamper contains staple items like rice, noodles, biscuits, canned food, cooking oil, toothpaste, shower gel and others.

Beneficiary families are collecting the food baskets at the Welfare Shop in groups, on different days and time slots, with Sands Cares Ambassadors providing support Friday and Saturday.

"As a member of the Macao community, Sands China is very pleased to continue our yearly support to Macau Holy House of Mercy's Welfare Shop," said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. "With the last few years having been challenging for all, it is especially important to protect the most vulnerable members of society. We are grateful for our continued collaboration with Macau Holy House of Mercy and for the volunteerism of our Sands Cares Ambassadors in service to the Welfare Shop."

In support of Holy House of Mercy's year-round food hamper initiative, Dr. Wong presented Sands China's ceremonial cheque for MOP 300,000 Friday to António José de Freitas, president of Macau Holy House of Mercy's General Assembly and Manuel Pires, member of Holy House of Mercy's Board of Trustees. Sam Chongnin, vice president of corporate communications and community affairs for Venetian Macau Limited, guest of honour Ng Sio Lai, president of the General Union of the Neighbourhood Associations of Macau, and Leong Iok Wa, affairs consultant of the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, were also in attendance. A Sands China team member dressed as the God of Fortune was also there to bestow blessings to beneficiary families on site.

The Sands Cares Ambassador programme was established in August 2009 to give Sands China team members an outlet for serving the local community by organising community activities and initiatives that work toward creating a better Macao. With membership of more than 3,300 volunteers from across all Sands China properties – Sands® Macao, The Venetian® Macao, The Plaza® Macao, The Parisian Macao and The Londoner® Macao – the Sands Cares Ambassadors have contributed more than 175,000 hours of voluntary community service since the programme's founding.

Sands China Ltd. considers initiatives like its support of Macau Holy House of Mercy's Welfare Shop as central to its commitment toward social causes and community involvement. The company's community work is part of Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship programme of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp.
