Sands China Team Members Spread Cheer to Elderly to Celebrate Chinese New Year

(Macao, Feb. 20, 2023) – Sands China's annual Chinese New Year volunteer activity continued for the 14th year with a visit to Seac Pai Van public housing in Coloane Saturday, where 150 team members shared warmth with around 130 elderly residents.

The residents are users of the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance programme, which is organised by the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM). Sands China began supporting the programme in 2010. The donations have helped nearly 11,600 elderly people to date; the funds help support people with financial difficulties to use the service and also go toward helping the programme develop more value-added services.

"Sands China is very pleased to continue our Chinese New Year tradition of visiting the elderly, whom we cherish as valuable members of society," said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. "We are grateful for our team members for volunteering their time for this important outreach effort and give our thanks to Peng On Tung for the services they provide and for collaborating with us on this annual initiative."

For Chinese New Year, volunteers from Sands China, including team members dressed as the "God of Wealth," brought festive gift packs and offered their blessings. The gift packs were purchased from Fuhong Society of Macau, containing useful staples like oil, noodles and biscuits. They also contained dried apple tea bags and fig honey, both made by Fuhong Society of Macau's Corner of Portuguese Cuisine Cantinho Luso. A few team members who have attended a home maintenance course organised by UGAMM performed simple household maintenance for those who needed it.

These annual Chinese New Year visits with the elderly are part of Sands China's community caring activity series entitled "Spreading Warmth to the Community," where the company shares joy and kindness through visits and celebrations with sectors of society needing care.

Sands China's community work is part of Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship programme of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp.
