Engages in basketball activities with members of local social service organisations Part of “NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week”
(Macao, Oct 11, 2025) – With The NBA China Games 2025 heating up The Venetian Arena Oct. 10 and 12, NBA Cares and Sands Cares continue to ride the wave of excitement with the “NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week.” They presented a community basketball carnival Saturday at the NBA House at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo Hall A, where NBA Legend Shawn Marion led an interactive basketball session with members of local social service organisations. The event aimed to connect the Macao community through the power of basketball while spreading care and promoting inclusion.
Around 150 participants went to the carnival, including 120 family members from the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macao, and the Women’s General Association of Macao, along with a group of Sands Cares Ambassadors. Sands Global Ambassador David Beckham was there as well to support the event.
The event kicked off with a lively performance by the Phoenix Suns Gorilla mascot. Accompanied by Sands Cares Ambassadors, families from the three local associations shared joyful parent-child moments as they enthusiastically joined themed sports games and enjoyed performances by a cheerleading team and the Phoenix Flyers and Team Hype – the official entertainment performance teams of the Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets. NBA Legend Shawn Marion was there to share some basketball fun with participants, while David Beckham made a hand-drawn T-shirt with the children, creating lasting memories. Sands Cares Ambassadors, distributed goodie bags prepared during the impact week’s tip-off day. The bags included a quick-dry towel, cordless jump rope, and an NBA blind box.
Patrick Dumont, president and chief operating officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp., said: “The NBA China Games is a globally anticipated sports extravaganza, and the debut of the NBA House in Macao is a celebration of basketball designed for fans, residents and visitors. Sands Cares and NBA Cares are honoured to have co-hosted the community basketball carnival, inviting members of several local community organisations and their families to immerse themselves in the exciting atmosphere of the games. The carnival also provided an opportunity for those families to interact closely with NBA Legend Shawn Marion and Sands Global Ambassador David Beckham. As a testament to our unwavering commitment to the local community, we are proud to promote the fun and excitement of sports in an environment that fosters family harmony and spreads positive energy.”
The event’s attending guests included: Shawn Marion; David Beckham; Patrick Dumont; Ron Reese, senior vice president of global communications and corporate affairs of Las Vegas Sands Corp.; Zachary Hudson, executive vice president and global general counsel of Las Vegas Sands Corp.; Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd.; and Dave Sun, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Sands China Ltd. and managing director of Venetian Macau Limited.
Running Oct. 8-12, the five-day impact week coincides with The NBA China Games 2025 at The Venetian Arena Oct. 10 and 12. NBA Legends including Mitch Richmond, Hardaway, Yao Ming, Shawn Marion, and Deron Williams, as well as current players from the Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets, are taking part in impact week’s series of community events, using basketball as a bridge to extend NBA Cares’ spirit of compassion and connection to the Macao community. Events include a basketball exchange at a local school, distributing boxed lunches in the community, and a “Her Time to Play” clinic.
After having made its Macao debut Wednesday, the NBA House delivers its final day of fun and excitement Sunday at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo Hall A, offering fans an immersive basketball experience. The NBA House blends basketball, music, fashion, and cutting-edge technology into one spectacular celebration, with NBA Legends making appearances to interact closely with fans. The popular fan event has previously been held in Brazil, Canada, France, India, Mexico, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
The “Her Time to Play” clinic will take place Sunday, where NBA Legend Deron Williams and WNBA player Myisha Hines-Allen share their athletic insights with students from Macao and the “Her Time to Play” initiative, culminating in a five-on-five friendly skills challenge to close the community impact week.
