Sands China Renders 10 Consecutive Years of Support to Macau Holy House of Mercy's Welfare Shop

Company's contributions to food hamper initiative have benefitted 3,400 families to date

(Macao, Feb. 10, 2022) – Sands China Ltd. made a MOP 300,000 donation to Holy House of Mercy Feb. 10, marking Sands China's 10th consecutive year of support to the charitable organisation. Additionally, around 30 Sands Cares Ambassadors are volunteering at Macau Holy House of Mercy's Welfare Shop Feb. 10-11, where they are helping distribute over 370 Chinese New Year food hampers to disadvantaged families.

Since 2013, the Welfare Shop has been distributing food and essentials each month to families with financial difficulties, helping several thousand households from disadvantaged neighbourhoods get relief from rising living costs. Sands China has been a sponsor of the programme from its beginning, and the company's contributions have benefited 3,400 families to date.

Each hamper contains staple items like rice, noodles, biscuits, canned food, cooking oil, toothpaste, shower gel and others. With this year's hampers, Sands China additionally prepared a red packet with a MOP 100 supermarket coupon and an epidemic prevention pack containing useful pandemic supplies for each family.

As was done last year, beneficiary families are collecting their hampers at Macau Holy House of Mercy's Welfare Shop in groups, on different days and time slots, in line with the Macao's government's epidemic-prevention guidance to avoid gathering in large groups.

Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd., said: "Sands China is pleased to be in our 10th year of supporting Macau Holy House of Mercy's Welfare Shop and its distribution of food hampers to low-income families. Our thanks go to our Sands Cares Ambassadors for their time and energy in extending the company's goodwill and to Holy House of Mercy for their continued collaboration – we look forward to many more years of serving the community together."

Dr. Wong presented a ceremonial cheque for MOP 300,000 Feb. 10 to António José de Freitas, president of Macau Holy House of Mercy's General Assembly, Manuel Pires, member of Holy House of Mercy's Board of Trustees, and Gisela Nunes, secretary general of Macau Holy House of Mercy. Chongnin Sam, vice president of corporate communications and community affairs for Venetian Macau Limited, and guests of honour Ng Sio Lai, president of the General Union of the Neighbourhood Associations of Macau and Sam Iat Cóng, vice president of the board of directors of the Macao Federation of Trade Unions were also in attendance.

The Sands Cares Ambassador programme was established in August 2009 to give Sands China team members an outlet for serving the local community by organising community activities and initiatives that work toward creating a better Macao. With membership of more than 3,300 volunteers from across all Sands China properties – Sands® Macao, The Venetian® Macao, The Plaza® Macao, The Parisian Macao and The Londoner® Macao – the Sands Cares Ambassadors have contributed more than 175,000 hours of voluntary community service since the programme's founding.

Sands China Ltd. considers initiatives like its support of Macau Holy House of Mercy's Welfare Shop as central to its commitment toward social causes and community involvement. The company's community work is part of Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship programme of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp.
