Sands China Team Members Celebrate Chinese New Year with Elderly

Chinese New Year volunteer activity in 13th year
Benefits Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance programme users

(Macao, Feb. 15, 2022) – Around 150 Sands China team members visited the homes of nearly 130 elderly residents at Seac Pai Van public housing in Coloane Tuesday, for an annual volunteer service activity for Chinese New Year, in an effort to spread warmth to the community.

Sands China's volunteer group, the Sands Cares Ambassadors, have participated in the activity for 13 consecutive years, where they visit the homes of elderly users of the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance programme during the Chinese New Year period. This year, Sands China team members from various departments also joined the Ambassadors to volunteer their time for this good cause.

In 2010, Sands China became the first integrated resort operator to support the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance programme, which is organised by the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM). Since then, Sands China's donations to the organisation have benefited more than 10,400 elderly to date. The funds help support people with financial difficulties to use the service and also go toward helping the programme develop more value-added services.

"Caring about the welfare and happiness of the elderly is a virtue that our Macao community cherishes," said Sands China Ltd. President Dr. Wilfred Wong, who was one of Tuesday's volunteers. "Sands China is very pleased therefore to continue our tradition and to be of service during Chinese New Year in support of this meaningful initiative. We are grateful to our team members for offering their time and energy to help care for Macao's elderly as we celebrate the Year of the Tiger."

Volunteers from Sands China sat down to chat with the residents and handed out Chinese New Year gift packs that had been purchased from Fuhong Society of Macau and prepared by its members with disabilities. The gift packs contained household staple items and an epidemic prevention pack containing useful pandemic supplies. Additionally, Sands China prepared supermarket coupons to be delivered by "gods of wealth" greeters for each elderly resident.

Some of the team members helped change light bulbs that needed replacing, swapping them out for energy-efficient LED bulbs. A few of them who have attended a home maintenance course organised by UGAMM performed home safety checks and simple water and electricity maintenance work for those who needed it.

The annual visits with elderly are part of Sands China's community caring activity series entitled "Spreading Warmth to the Community," where the company shares joy and kindness through visits and celebrations with sectors of society needing care.

Sands China's community work is part of Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship programme of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp.
