Sands China Integrated Talent Development Programme Honours New Graduates

Customised programme targets management professionals

(Macao, June 8, 2022) – The latest group of Sands China team members to complete the nine-month Sands China Integrated Talent Development Programme were honoured at a graduation ceremony at The Londoner® Macao Wednesday.

Debuting in 2019, the programme was custom-tailored for Sands China's management professionals and was developed in conjunction with the Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.). Wednesday's group is the second to graduate from the programme, following the success of the first cohort of students.

Facilitated by distinguished academics from across Asia, the management training initiative combines practical and sustainable learning approaches. It aims to enhance the management quality of Sands China's management team members and nurture them as future leaders.

Participating team members develop innovative management strategies, which they then implement at work at the end of the programme. The process requires them to engage in a number of cross-departmental projects that help them obtain operational insight across various business divisions within an integrated resort environment. It also provides participants fresh insights to traditional leadership practices, allowing them to take from each concept what they want, challenge the status quo and have the opportunity to test their ideas within a safe environment.

"We are so pleased to recognise the efforts and accomplishments of our second group of graduates in the Sands China Integrated Talent Development Programme," said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. "As Macao continues its development into a world centre of tourism and leisure, we are proud to continue our support of that endeavour by cultivating leadership and professional growth among Macao's integrated resort talent."

Nearly 40 management professionals from various departments, such as facilities, food and beverage, and hotel, completed this second round of the programme after being identified as the company's future generation of leadership. The training aimed to help them develop a deeper understanding of shared responsibility and empower them to contribute to the company's success through their actions on a daily basis.

Noel Cho, a director of hotel operations, was one of the graduates, and said: "This is a great leadership programme. I initially thought it would be very academic, but every module inspired us to have a new way of thinking and to develop a forward-thinking mindset. Getting to know more of the company's leaders and talent was also a key takeaway and benefit of the programme for me."

A total of 68 team members have graduated from the programme since its debut in 2019, and a total of 137 team members have benefitted from the programme by electing to take one or more of its modules.

Guests of honour at Wednesday's graduation ceremony were Chan Chon U, Macao Labour Affairs Bureau Deputy Director; Wong Vai Ian, Macao Labour Affairs Bureau Vocational Training Department Skills Training Division Head; Yang Yi, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macau Special Administration Region Economic Affairs Department Deputy Director; Pang Chuan, M.U.S.T. Vice President and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies; Dr. Wong; and management team members and department heads from Sands China.

Sands China views its team members as its greatest asset. Committed to developing a well-trained workforce, the company offers a variety of horizontal and vertical mobility opportunities to its team members through avenues like internal promotions and integrated resort career development programmes, among others.

The company has proactively collaborated with educational institutions in Macao on a wide diversity of professional development programmes to cultivate the practice of lifelong learning that contributes to Macao's growth as a world-class destination for tourism and leisure. In 2021 alone, Sands China delivered more than 1.64 million training hours to team members and Macao locals.
