Sands China Donates MOP 1.08 Million to Local Tertiary Institutions for Scholarships and Fellowships
Nearly 1,600 students benefited to date from 16-year initiative
(Macao,
Sept. 27, 2022) – Sands China Ltd. presented
ceremonial cheques totalling MOP 1.08 million to
representatives of seven higher education institutions
Sept. 16 at a ceremony at The Venetian®
Macao, as part of the company's ongoing support of
higher education in Macao. It is the 16th consecutive
year of the annual initiative, which provides
scholarship and fellowship money to Macao tertiary
institutions.
Dr. Wilfred
Wong, president of Sands China Ltd., said: "Sands China
is pleased to continue our annual practice of supporting
local tertiary education through these scholarship and
fellowship donations. It is our hope that it will help
nurture the growth of local youth and support the
development of diversified talent in Macao, adding to
Macao's pool of human
resources."
Including this
year's donation, Sands China has donated MOP 13.5
million for tertiary scholarships and fellowships in
Macao, which have benefitted almost 1,600 students since
2006. Each year, the educational institutions select
beneficiary students based on their academic performance
and financial status during the previous academic year.
This year's MOP 1.08 million donation will be
distributed among 108 students to support their studies
for the current academic
year.
Sands China
representatives presented the ceremonial donation
cheques to Carol Wong, director of the Rector's Office
of the University of Macau; Kwong Ying Wa, vice
president, and Remus Wong Ka Weng, head of the Student
Affairs Office of the Macau University of Science and
Technology; Irene Lei Vai Fong, secretary-general, Alice
Lao Weng Ian, head of the Student Affairs Office, and
Irene Chan Iok Leng, head of the Public Relations Office
of Macao Polytechnic University; Louisa Lam Pou Iok,
head of registrar of the Pedagogic Affairs Department of
the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies; Prof. Keith
Morrison, vice-rector, Dr. Alejandro Salcedo Garcia,
administrator, and Teresa Loong, director of the Office
for Student and Alumni Affairs of the University of
Saint Joseph; Prof. Samuel Tong Kai Chung, president of
the Macau Institute of Management; and Dr. Robert Chan,
pro-rector of City University of
Macau.
