First course of new Sands Hospitality Academy

(Macao, Mar. 2, 2023) – Sands China Ltd. held a Skills in International Hospitality and Protocol Workshop Wednesday at The Venetian® Macao's Adelson Advanced Education Centre, the first course of the company's new Sands Hospitality Academy.

The Sands Hospitality Academy seeks to equip the company's hospitality practitioners, such as hotel and restaurant managers, with practical skills and knowledge to help them exemplify international industry standards for exceptional levels of service quality and performance.

More than 60 team members attended Wednesday's workshop, which was aimed at developing skills for delivering the highest hospitality standards for overseas guests, as Sands China bolsters its efforts to attract foreign visitors to its integrated resorts, in line with Macao's focus on economic recovery.

The workshop was conducted by Daniel Fung, former director of the Protocol, Public Relations and External Affairs Office of the Macao S.A.R., who helped empower team members with enhanced international hospitality and protocol skills.

Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd., said: "Sands China was very pleased to have Mr. Fung deliver the first course of our new Sands Hospitality Academy, as providing exceptional service to global travellers is an essential part of building Macao into a world centre of tourism and leisure. With the new platform of the Sands Hospitality Academy, we hope to take advantage of our expertise in integrated resort management to develop professionals in hospitality, so that we can contribute to building a robust pool of professional talent for the Greater Bay Area."

Topics in the Skills in International Hospitality and Protocol Workshop included social etiquette for different occasions and in various countries, expressions of courtesy among different cultures, and protocol for receiving VIP guests.

One of the workshop participants said: "Thanks to Mr. Fung for his vivid and interesting explanations, as well as for sharing his professional knowledge and experience about hospitality and culture in different countries. This workshop not only helps us improve our competitiveness, but it also gives us more skills for preparing for more overseas visitors."

As the largest integrated resort operator in Macao, Sands China aims to be a role model for integrated resort development and play a leading role in talent development for the Greater Bay Area via its Sands China Academy. With this in mind, the company is inaugurating six new sub-academies, bringing the total number to eight, in support of Macao's development into a talent incubator for the Greater Bay Area. Sands China is offering these platforms as a way for industry experts to share their experience and knowledge with Sands China team members and with industry practitioners in the Greater Bay Area to foster their growth in various areas.
