11th year of
Chinese New Year volunteer activity

(Macao,
January
14, 2020) –
A group of around 120
Sands Cares Ambassadors visited the homes of
about 100 live-alone elderly at Seac Pai Van
public housing in Coloane Sunday, in an
annual spring cleaning volunteer service
activity ahead of Chinese New Year. The
Ambassadors also offered haircuts to the
elderly residents while there for the annual
activity.
For 11 years now,
volunteers from Sands China have visited the
homes of live-alone elderly users of the
Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance programme
organised by The General Union for
Neighbourhood Associations. Sands China
began supporting the programme in 2010, and
has since donated a total of over MOP 2
million, benefiting nearly 9,300 live-alone
elderly to date. The funds help support
people with financial difficulties to use
the service and also go toward helping the
programme develop more value-added
services.
Sands China Ltd.
President Dr. Wilfred Wong said: “The
contributions made by Macao’s elderly
population should not be forgotten. Sands
China is grateful to our Sands Cares
Ambassadors for caring for and serving this
important segment of our community, for
bringing joy to their hearts, and for
spreading the company’s cheer and goodwill
during this festive time of Chinese New
Year.”
Taking cleaning
supplies with them, the Sands Cares
Ambassadors worked to clean and tidy the
homes of the elderly residents they visited
on Sunday, where they swept, mopped and
scrubbed in preparation for the Year of the
Rat. They also chatted with residents and
passed out Chinese New Year gift packs
purchased from Fuhong Society of Macau,
containing useful staples like oil, grain
and noodles. In addition, they offered
haircuts to the elderly residents.
The Sands Cares
Ambassador programme was established in
August 2009 to give Sands China team members
an outlet for serving the local community by
organising community activities and
initiatives that work toward creating a
better Macao. With membership of more than
3,300 volunteers from across all Sands China
properties – Sands® Macao, The
Venetian® Macao, The
Plaza® Macao, Sands®
Cotai Central and The Parisian Macao – the
Sands Cares Ambassadors have contributed
more than 100,000 hours of voluntary
community service since the programme’s
founding.
