Sands China Team Members and Children Perform in Responsible Gaming Drama

Sands China supports unique RG training initiative to deliver the message of responsible gaming and strengthen parent-child interactions

(
Macao, September 7, 2020) – Sands China Ltd. recently supported the Youth Volunteers Association of Macao (AJVM) in a new responsible gaming training initiative, in which parents and their children practiced and performed a short drama about responsible gaming.

Organised by AJVM, sponsored by the Social Welfare Bureau, and supported by Sands China, the Financial Planning from Small, Influencing Big Community 2020 training initiative was created in support of the Macau SAR government's responsible gaming promotion themed on the family.

"Sands China is pleased to have supported this unique training, which helps deliver the message of responsible gaming to parents and children, while emphasising the development of positive values and wise financial concepts," said Andy Kobel, senior vice president of table games and gaming optimization for Sands China Ltd. "We are also glad to see that our team members were able to take advantage of this opportunity to learn about responsible gaming with their family members in a creative way through performing a drama. It is part of our strategy of introducing responsible gaming in a fun and engaging manner so they can learn while playing."

Twice a week from Aug. 3-31, participants worked on learning and practicing the drama, which centres on two families living on an otherwise uninhabited island. Through demonstrating their contrasting financial choices, the drama educates the audience – and the actors – on the importance of responsible gaming and sound financial planning and management.

Sands China team members and their children participated in the training, and performed together Aug. 31 at the Ilha Verde Community Centre. After the performance, they enjoyed games, a sharing session and other activities, where they not only learned positive financial management values, but also cultivated a better consensus on spending within the family.

Austin Vong, president of the Youth Volunteers Association of Macau, said: "It was a pleasure to work with Sands China and to have them support this training. An important element of the sessions was for the instructor to help encourage participants to integrate their knowledge and share it with classmates and family members in their daily lives. In this way, we can help promote the importance of establishing good financial management habits from an early age."

Sands China remains committed to the well-being of its guests and recognises the importance of responsible gaming to the Macao community. Sands China was the first gaming operator in Macao to launch a self-exclusion programme in 2004, and was a pioneer in including responsible gaming training in its company-wide team member orientation programme. Sands China established its comprehensive responsible gaming programme in 2007, with the goals of contributing to the continuous development of the Macao community, bearing corporate responsibility in addressing social issues and developing an environment and a culture of responsible gaming in Macao.
