Sands Cares Ambassador Programme Celebrates 11 Years
Ceremony inaugurates new working committee and honours Adelson Citizenship Award winners
(Macao,
Sept.
17, 2020) –
The Sands Cares
Ambassador programme celebrated its 11th
anniversary with a ceremony at The
Venetian® Macao Wednesday,
featuring the inauguration of the new
Sands Cares Ambassador Working
Committee and an award
presentation for the three Macao winners in
this year’s Mr. Sheldon G. And Dr.
Miriam Adelson Citizenship Awards,
presented by Sands
Cares.
Over 100 team
members and guests attended the event,
including representatives from the China
Liaison Office, the Macao SAR government,
and local community partners, as well as
Sands China
executives.
“Sands China is very
proud of our Sands Cares Ambassadors, who
have been giving up their free time to do
volunteer work to help others, particularly
society’s more vulnerable groups,” said Dr.
Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd.
“As we celebrate 11 successful years of the
programme, we are excited to use this
occasion to officially inaugurate its
working committee, so that we can organise
various community activities for our
ever-expanding team of 3,300 volunteers in a
more effective and efficient manner. We will
continue to contribute and give back to
society, while injecting more positive
energy into the
community.”
To better cope with
the expansion of the company's volunteer
service and the growth of its volunteer
team, a Sands Cares Ambassador Working
Committee has been set up. The new committee
seeks to recognise talented Ambassadors and
offer them opportunities for personal
development, such as taking on project
leadership roles for Sands Cares events. It
also aims to organise more community
activities with the overall goal of serving
more people in the community.
The inauguration of
the committee included an oath-taking
ceremony for the new committee members,
administered by Huang Huagai, director of
the social work department and deputy
secretary general of the Liaison Office of
the Central People's government in the Macao
SAR; Hon Wai, director of the Social Welfare
Bureau; and Dr. Wong; and witnessed by local
community partners and other guests.
Additionally,
Wednesday’s event featured the presentation
of the Mr. Sheldon G. And Dr. Miriam Adelson
Citizenship Awards to three winners from the
Macao region. They were among the nine
global winners of the annual awards
announced in July, who exemplify a
dedication to giving back to local
communities and important causes. The awards
were created in 2017 to honour the Adelson
family’s long-term commitment to
philanthropy and the legacy of giving they
have instilled within the organisation.
Sands China was the
first integrated resort operator in Macao to
formally establish a volunteer team when it
launched the Sands Cares Ambassador
programme in August 2009. The programme
gives Sands China team members a platform
for serving the local community by
organising community activities and
initiatives that work toward creating a
better Macao. With membership of 3,300
volunteers from across all Sands China
properties – Sands® Macao, The
Venetian Macao, The Plaza® Macao,
Sands® Cotai Central and The
Parisian Macao – the Sands Cares Ambassadors
have contributed close to 110,000 hours of
voluntary community service with more than
450 activities since the programme’s
founding.
