Sands China Seminar Teaches Team Members About Civil Protection in Macao
Part of company's ongoing professionalism education efforts

learned about civil protection in Macao at a seminar at
The Parisian Theatre Jan. 27, as part of the company's
ongoing effort to build professionalism and elevate the
awareness of disaster prevention and emergency response
capabilities among team
members.
Cheong Chi
Fai, sub-commissioner of the Civil Protection Operations
Centre of the Unitary Police Service, conducted the
seminar, which helped team members better understand
civil protection work and disaster prevention knowledge.
"Sands China
is grateful to Sub-Commissioner Cheong for leading this
seminar for our team members," said Dr. Wilfred Wong,
president of Sands China Ltd. "As part of our company's
professionalism training initiatives, this type of
knowledge is critical during community emergencies like
typhoons, as it can help save lives and protect
property."
Cheong's
seminar included a Q&A session for team members and
covered seven
topics:
- Introduction to the Unitary Police Service Organisation
- Macao civil protection system and operations
- Typhoon news and precautionary measures during the typhoon period
- Knowledge of emergency preparedness and avoidance
- Understand typhoon evacuation plans of the low-lying areas
- Introduction to Macao civil protection law and policies
- Securing life and property
Nearly 270
team members attended, including some interns from Sands
China's Career Experience Opportunities Programme. Sands
Cares Ambassadors also attended the training as part of
Macao's Community Emergency Volunteer Scheme. Tong Kim
Hou was among them, and said: "This was a very useful
seminar, and I feel like I'm better equipped now to help
the community recover during times of need and I have a
better understanding of civil protection in
Macao."
Sands China
has been committed to improving the professionalism of
its more than 27,000 team members through various
initiatives, including professional literacy training
courses, professional lectures, various professional
exchange activities, and through film viewing
sessions.
As part of
Sands China's ongoing professionalism training series
for team members, the Jan. 27 seminar aimed to assist
team members to gain a deeper understanding of the civil
protection structure and related work in Macao, helping
prepare them to assist family and community when
needed.
